ANNOTATION
In emerging and developing countries, waste concepts – in a typical process structure outlined in the sketch below – are often initiated (following related proposals of the concerned countries as a rule) and usually financed by IFIs (International Finance Institutions) – initially by assuming project development costs up to tender-ready planning (as a lost grant), and in a next step by granting a loan to finance “hard” project elements (e.g. the construction of landfills and other pre-treatment facilities). “Soft” project components, the importance of which is recognized to varying degrees by all financing institutions (the largest in Central and Eastern Europe are the EIB, EBRD and the World Bank Group), are also usually grant components.
The conference organizer invited the specialist representatives of some IFIs active in the environmental field (water, waste) to present appropriate instruments and experiences in setting and achieving environmental and social project goals – the extent to which these invitations are accepted will become clear at the start of the conference. This presentation will convey the experiences of a consulting engineer who has been working in this sector with his engineering consultancy (as part of a network of similar companies) for considerable time.
LECTURER'S PROFILE
Martin maintains a degree from the Technical University Berlin in Environmental Engineering (specialization solid waste and water resources management) and has been an independent consultant specializing in waste management for over 30 years.
His work focuses on the conception, optimization as well as the technical and economic testing and integration of recycling and waste treatment plants. Another focus of his work has always been the planning and development of sustainable waste management systems – 30 years ago in Austria, Germany and northern Italy, today in Southeastern Europe and wherever the need is shifting to… (at present: Tbilisi/Georgia, and Bosnia and Herzegowina).
The conference in Strbske Pleso has become a fixed date in his calendar with the opportunity to bring together and meet experienced colleagues in a pleasant environment.
