ANNOTATION
UN Agenda for Sustainable Development (SD) 2030 adopted in 2015 –
- the “all in one-device suitable for every purpose”: a comprehensive framework for all countries, regional and communes as well as for the civil society (citizens, entrepreneurs, science, other NGOs):
- 17 Sustainable Goals:
- covering practically every societal sector and policy,
- addresses environmental, social and economic development
- Attribution of 169 targets – leave discretion for the user to set up concrete targets described by indicators
German National Strategy, first adopted 2002, update every 4 years
- Management concept containing a monitoring concept, based on 66 indicators and objectives
- Provides orientation for the 16 federal states and communes
- National and federal state authorities have agreed on a close cooperation to efficiently achieve SD targets
Brandenburg SD Strategy: first adoption 2014, renovation 2019, update expected in 2023
- Process of establishment of indicators and targets
- First adoption of 33 measurable indicators and targets in 2019
- Monitoring report in 2022: Evaluation of trends for many indicators,
- “Challenging” indicators, where reporting is not feasible due to technical, scientific and political reasons
- Updating the strategy 2022/23:
- Identification of key areas for Brandenburg contributions to achieve Sustainable Development Goals
- Process how to identify appropriate indicators
Impact of the targets and indicators of the SD strategy: two examples:
- Electronic SD Check on all German National Legislation
- Declaration of projects applying for grants under the Lausitz Programme 2038
LECTURER’S PROFILE
Martin Pohlmann hast studied environmental protection engineering in Berlin. His master thesis dealt with a waste management concept for Cairo. Also at the Technical University of Berlin, he received his PhD in the faculty of Statistics.
For more than thirty years, he has been working for the Land Brandenburg in different positions, in which he for instance was seconded to Romania’s Ministry of Environment and to the Waste Department of the European Commission.
For the last fifteen years, he is the responsible official for the file sustainable development in the Ministry of Environment of Brandenburg.
