KEY WORDS

Biogas/Biomethane global scenario, Public adoption, Increase performance, Waste to energy, resilient waste management, European practices, Engineer solutions, emissions mitigation.

ANNOTATION

The global biogas and biomethane landscape is entering a decisive decade. As nations confront rising waste volumes, volatile energy markets, and the urgent need for climate resilient infrastructure, biogas stands out as one of the few technologies capable of delivering simultaneous wins: waste reduction, renewable energy generation, emissions mitigation, and circular economy value creation. Yet public adoption and sector performance have historically been constrained by inconsistent operations, fragmented standards, and under engineered waste to energy systems.

European practices demonstrate what is possible when engineering discipline, regulatory alignment and operator accountability converge. From advanced feedstock control to methane tight plant design and robust digestate valorisation, Europe has shown that biogas can operate as critical national infrastructure, not an experimental add on. These lessons form the backbone of the Agile Biogas approach.

Agile Biogas translates global experience into future ready, performance driven solutions. By combining engineering rigour with adaptive operational models it strengthens plant reliability, maximises biogas yields, and embeds resilience into waste management systems. This approach recognises that the next generation of biogas facilities must be smarter, safer, and more integrated to leveraging data, automation, and cross sector collaboration to meet rising expectations from governments, investors and communities.

In a world demanding cleaner energy and stronger waste systems, Agile Biogas positions biogas not just as a technology, but as a strategic pathway to sustainable growth and environmental stewardship.

LECTURER'S PROFILE

Flávio Ascenco is a biogas and biomethane specialist recognised for advancing global standards, operational excellence, and resilient waste to energy systems. As Director and Co Founder of ABEC and Agile Biogas, he brings a results driven engineering approach that strengthens plant performance, safety culture, and long term commercial viability.

Flávio played a central role in shaping the sector’s international framework, serving as Senior Technical Lead for both ADBA (UK association) and the World Biogas Association (WBA).

He was the developer and lead of the MBH global project, which created the first international policy framework and operational standards for biogas plants worldwide, including the International AD Certification Scheme (ADCS). His work has directly influenced regulatory alignment, operator accountability, and best practice adoption across multiple regions.

With advanced qualifications including ABC Certified AD Operator, WAMITAB Level 4, Metrology for Biogas, and NEBOSH, Flávio combines technical depth with strategic insight. He is widely respected for his ability to diagnose underperformance, engineer practical solutions, and support operators, investors, and governments in building future ready biogas infrastructure.
