Until the end of June, both types of beverage packaging (deposit and non-deposit) is in the offer of stores, and both collection methods are used for PET beverage bottles and cans side by side. From 1st July 2022, no disposable beverage packaging made of plastic and metal should end up in separate collection, with small exceptions in the case of consumption of goods purchased for stock.<\/span><\/p>\n

There is a possibility that due to the deposit system the change of the structure of sorted waste in the commodity of plastics is expected. It may lead to a significant reduction in the amount of plastic and metal beverage packaging in separate collection if the quantities transferred to the deposit system are not replaced by waste diverted from mixed municipal waste. ENVI – PAK analyses the composition of containers and bags for separate collection in municipalities and in an increased extent focuses on the analysis of whether packaging to be returned by consumers within the deposit system will also end up in separate collection.<\/span><\/p>\n

There are concerns that the introduction of the deposit system could lead to a decline in the willingness to sort other plastics and metals. If this is also the case in the Slovak Republic, it will certainly be more difficult to fulfil the obligations of producers. Since then, ENVI – PAK provides separate waste collection and recovery and recycling. On the 20th April 2016 the Ministry of the Environment of the Slovak Republic granted ENVI – PAK an authorization for the activity of producer responsibility organization for packaging and with effect from 1st July 2016, ENVI – PAK became the producer responsibility organization (PRO). ENVI – PAK is the longest-running producer responsibility organization (originally authorized organization) in Slovakia. Therefore, it has the most practical experience, and know-how also draws on manufacturers who have many years of international experience with the management of extended producer responsibility systems. These include Coca Cola, Nestl\u00e9, Henkel, Tetra Pak, P & G, Mattoni, Unilever and Mondelez.<\/span><\/p>\n

ENVI – PAK provides collection, recovery and recycling of waste from packaging and non-packaging products, it finances separate waste collection in municipalities in the Slovak Republic under the Waste Act.<\/span><\/p>\n

PRO ENVI – PAK operates on the principle of cooperation of all actors involved in the waste stream \u2013 from producers placing packaging and non-packaging products on the market or into circulation, through the municipalities responsible for providing separate waste collection on their territory, the collecting companies that provide collection and secondary sorting of waste, to waste recyclers who produce their products from secondary raw materials.<\/span><\/p>\n

ENVI – PAK has become a member of the International Association of Producer Responsibility Organizations PRO Europe since 2003, through which it acquires and implements international know-how in Slovakia. Organizations associated with PRO Europe have been using waste collection, recovery and recycling systems for years. That is why for ENVI – PAK they are the source of recommendations that can be used in Slovakia with the fact that they have already been verified and work well with a long tradition in well-developed European countries.<\/span><\/p>\n
