In an effort to attract clients’ attention, companies use terms such as “ECO”, “BIO” or “SUSTAINABILITY” on a daily basis. At best, it’s fair game, backed by data, at worst, it’s misleading and lying. At the beginning of the year, the European Commission decided to provide guidance to states on how to fight greenwashing. The Green Claims Directive provides a framework for EU countries to transpose into national legislation. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The directive aims not only to limit the impact of greenwashing and enable consumers to make informed decisions, but also \u00a0to control companies themselves more and penalise them if they break these rules.<\/span><\/p>\n

To meet the demands of the new legislation, companies will have to set a new perspective on their supply, production and distribution processes. Developing organisational skills and educating people will be an essential requirement. Changes may require the creation of a dedicated team or the assignment of a staff member to oversee the environmental management framework process.\u00a0Companies will also need to increase teams working in marketing and external communications.<\/span><\/p>\n

The extent of the costs involved cannot be precisely identified at the moment, but the directive offers a fairly clear idea of the issue of control and sanctions. The designs look like this:<\/span><\/p>\n

  • Confiscation of the product or proceeds concerned<\/span><\/li>\n

    Cie\u013eom smernice je nielen obmedzi\u0165 dosah greenwashingu a umo\u017eni\u0165 spotrebite\u013eom prij\u00edma\u0165 informovan\u00e9 rozhodnutia, ale viac\u00a0kontrolova\u0165 samotn\u00e9 spolo\u010dnosti\u00a0a sankcionova\u0165 ich, ak tieto pravidl\u00e1 poru\u0161uj\u00fa.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Na splnenie n\u00e1rokov novej legislat\u00edvy bud\u00fa musie\u0165 firmy nastavi\u0165 nov\u00fd poh\u013ead na svoje dod\u00e1vate\u013esk\u00e9, v\u00fdrobn\u00e9 a distribu\u010dn\u00e9 procesy.
