Many of these vehicles will be housed at the new fully electric depot at Landmann Way in south London. The electric vehicles will charge their\u00a0batteries by drawing renewable electric power direct from an adjacent energy recovery facility which uses the waste collected from homes and businesses in Westminster as fuel. Westminster\u2019s waste management fleet completes 50 million collections every year\u00a0and each electric vehicle saves up to 89% CO2e compared to a diesel-powered model.<\/p>\n

Due to the service\u2019s extremely high profile, this monumental change could only be accommodated with the most rigorous of planning and project management to ensure service reliability would\u00a0never be compromised. Failure was simply not an option.<\/p>\n

He holds a double degree in Facilities Management and has over 17 years\u2019 experience in resource and waste management.<\/p>\n

As Waste and Recycling Manager for Westminster City Council he looks after its waste management provisions that provide services to a resident population of 250,000, 34,000 businesses as well as 1 million daily visitors, commuters, and tourists.<\/p>\n

Jarno is the current Secretary of the National Association of Waste Disposal Officers (NAWDO). The City of Westminster stretches from Pimlico and Victoria in the south through the West End, Marylebone and Bayswater to Paddington and Queen\u2019s Park in the north-west. It includes the capital\u2019s principal areas of government, shopping, entertainment and tourism and the headquarters of innumerable commercial and professional organisations together with extensive residential areas of all types.<\/p>\n

The resident population now stands at approximately 255,000 but it is estimated that about 1 million people set foot in Westminster at some time during the day. There are also tens of thousands of people who live in the city for short periods or on a part-time basis who are not included in the permanent resident population.<\/p>\n

The City Council employs about 4,800 staff who work flexibly over a number of office and site locations, almost all of them within the city boundaries.<\/p>\n
