Chemical recycling of plastics is one of the technologies that have the potential to ensure full circularity of plastics without losing their original quality. The Mevra EcoWaste company is currently preparing a chemical recycling project in the Czech Republic as a start-up designed to innovatively complement the technical infrastructure of traditional mechanical recycling of plastics.<\/p>\n

The ever-increasing pressure toward a circular economy, the need to meet recycling targets and the new EU regulations (Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation – PPWR), under which, starting in 2030 all plastic packaging made from of any type plastic must contain a mandatory amount of recyclate, are increasing the pressure to apply chemical recycling technologies for plastics, which can be an irreplaceable pillar of modern material recycling.<\/p>\n

The CITEM project has already successfully passed several major milestones\u2014it owns land in the Burianovka industrial zone, has completed an environmental impact assessment (EIA), and received a zoning decision and building permit in early 2026. Design work is currently underway, moving the project toward the implementation phase, which is scheduled to begin in early 2027.<\/p>\n

He began his professional career at the Research Institute for Regional and Urban Development, where he worked on conceptual studies in the field of the environment, municipal and hazardous waste management, and technical infrastructure for waste management. He collaborated on the first Waste Management Plan of the Czech Republic (1993).<\/p>\n

In 1994 – 2005, he worked in managerial positions in the international company A.S.A. in the Czech Republic and Poland. He then worked as a consultant for SGS Czech Republic, Fenice Polska, OZO Ostrava, AQUATEST, AGROEKO, A.S.A. \u010cR.<\/p>\n

He participated in the development of the Concept of Czech-Polish Cross-Border Cooperation in the Use of Selected Waste Streams within the CZ-PL Interreg 2014 – 2020 Program (2017) and was an expert guarantor for the I. and II. Czech-Polish Conference on Municipal Waste Management, Recycling and Energy Recovery from Waste (Ostrava 2018 and Olomouc 2019).<\/p>\n

In 2019 – 2024, he worked as a senior manager for group projects in the Veolia Czech Republic group (Veolia Energie \u010cR a.s., Recovera Vyu\u017eit\u00ed zdroj a.s.). In 2024, he was a member of the board of directors of the Technology for the 21st Century Foundation. He also significantly participated in the preparation of Decree No. 169\/2023 Coll. on determining the conditions under which solid fuel from waste ceases to be waste. Martin Gajdo\u0161 is a leader and strategic advisor who helps companies unlock their potential, grow, and succeed in a rapidly changing environment. As Sales & Business Development Director, he is involved in building Mevra EcoWaste\u2019s chemical recycling plant for waste plastics.<\/p>\n

Previously, he served as Director of Strategy & Business Development at ORLEN Unipetrol. He led key transformation projects in the areas of decarbonization, plastics recycling, and expansion into new markets. As Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Remaq, he played a role in integrating the largest plastic recycling company in the Czech Republic into the ORLEN Group business.<\/p>\n

He began his career at EY and KPMG, where he focused on forensic analysis, M&A, and financial services consulting. He has worked on projects in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Austria, Germany, Belgium, and the U.S., and has experience in multicultural environments, particularly in the energy and financial sectors.<\/p>\n

Martin is known for his holistic approach to strategy execution, his support of team motivation, and his courage to seek solutions to even the most demanding challenges. Mevra EcoWaste Ltd.<\/strong> was founded in 2021 by Petr Varecha and Michal Kri\u010dfalu\u0161i as a Czech innovation company based in Ostrava, specializing in the circular economy and the chemical recycling of plastic waste.<\/p>\n

Its main vision and strategy is to process plastics that can no longer be conventionally mechanically recycled and convert them into valuable raw materials that replace fossil fuels using chemical plastic recycling technology.<\/p>\n

Unlike mechanical recycling (crushing and melting), chemical recycling uses thermochemical processes for plastic waste, breaking down polymers at the molecular level to create a high-quality feedstock of primary grade for the petrochemical industry. The end products of the recycling process are suitable for the production of food-contact packaging and as a filler for rubber manufacturing.<\/p>\n

Mevra EcoWaste has implemented EU-co-funded projects to support science and research in the field of the circular economy and chemical recycling of plastics, namely:<\/p>\n

    MevraEcoWaste is developing an innovative startup project called CITEM (Circular Technology for Environmental Management). The project involves the chemical recycling of plastics using a thermochemical decomposition process (pyrolysis) in the absence of oxygen.<\/p>\n

    Construction of the production plant, including a plastic sorting line for feedstock preparation, is underway in the Burianovka industrial zone in Hav\u00ed\u0159ov. The site is being developed on the grounds of the former sludge ponds of the Franti\u0161ek Mine, thereby revitalizing a previously degraded brownfield site.<\/p>\n

    The CITEM project covers an area of 10.2 hectares, including land reserves for future expansion of production capacity. In February 2025, the EIA screening process was completed with approval, and in early February 2026, the CITEM project obtained both the zoning decision and the building permit. Currently, technical and construction documentation is being prepared so that the first phase of construction can begin in early 2027, following the completion of the backbone infrastructure of the Burianovka industrial zone.     St\u00e1le rostouc\u00ed tlak na ob\u011bhov\u00e9 hospod\u00e1\u0159stv\u00ed, nutnost pln\u011bn\u00ed c\u00edl\u016f recyklace i nov\u00e9 na\u0159\u00edzen\u00ed EU o obalech a obalov\u00fdch odpadech (Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation \u2013 PPWR), kdy od roku 2030 bude ka\u017ed\u00fd plastov\u00fd obal z jak\u00e9hokoliv plastu obsahovat povinn\u00e9 mno\u017estv\u00ed recykl\u00e1tu zvy\u0161uj\u00ed tlak na uplatn\u011bn\u00ed technologi\u00ed chemick\u00e9 recyklace plast\u016f, kter\u00e9 mohou b\u00fdt nezastupiteln\u00fdm pil\u00ed\u0159em modern\u00ed materi\u00e1lov\u00e9 recyklace.<\/p>\n

    Projekt CITEM m\u00e1 \u00fasp\u011b\u0161n\u011b zvl\u00e1dnut\u00fdch ji\u017e n\u011bkolik v\u00fdznamn\u00fdch m\u00edln\u00edk\u016f \u2013 vlastn\u00ed pozemky v pr\u016fmyslov\u00e9 z\u00f3n\u011b Burianovka, m\u00e1 ukon\u010den\u00e9 zji\u0161\u0165ovac\u00ed \u0159\u00edzen\u00ed EIA , za\u010d\u00e1tkem roku 2026 bylo vyd\u00e1no \u00fazemn\u00ed rozhodnut\u00ed a stavebn\u00ed povolen\u00ed. Nyn\u00ed ji\u017e prob\u00edhaj\u00ed projek\u010dn\u00ed pr\u00e1ce, kter\u00e9 tento projekt posouvaj\u00ed k vlastn\u00ed realiza\u010dn\u00ed f\u00e1zi, kter\u00e1 by m\u011bla b\u00fdt zah\u00e1jena za\u010d\u00e1tkem roku 2027.<\/p>\n

    V letech 2019 – 2024 p\u016fsobil jako senior mana\u017eer pro skupinov\u00e9 projekty ve skupin\u011b Veolia \u010cesk\u00e1 republika (Veolia Energie \u010cR a.s., Recovera Vyu\u017eit\u00ed zdroj\u016f a.s.). V roce 2024 byl \u010dlenem spr\u00e1vn\u00ed rady Nada\u010dn\u00edho fondu Technologie pro XXI. stolet\u00ed. V\u00fdznamn\u011b se tak\u00e9 pod\u00edlel na p\u0159\u00edprav\u011b Vyhl\u00e1\u0161ky \u010d. 169\/2023 Sb. o stanoven\u00ed podm\u00ednek, p\u0159i jejich\u017e spln\u011bn\u00ed p\u0159est\u00e1v\u00e1 b\u00fdt tuh\u00e9 palivo z odpadu odpadem.       Chemick\u00e1 recyklace na rozd\u00edl od mechanick\u00e9 recyklace (drcen\u00ed a taven\u00ed) vyu\u017e\u00edv\u00e1 termochemick\u00e9 procesy pro plastov\u00e9 odpady, kdy se rozkl\u00e1daj\u00ed polymery na molekul\u00e1rn\u00ed \u00farovni, \u010d\u00edm\u017e vznik\u00e1 vysoce kvalitn\u00ed vstupn\u00ed surovina na \u00farovni prim\u00e1rn\u00ed kvality pro petrochemick\u00fd pr\u016fmysl. Jde o chemickou recyklaci plast\u016f s vyu\u017eit\u00edm procesu termochemick\u00e9ho rozkladu (pyrol\u00fdzy) za nep\u0159\u00edtomnosti kysl\u00edku.<\/p>\n

        V\u00fdstavba v\u00fdrobn\u00edho z\u00e1vodu v\u010detn\u011b dot\u0159\u00ed\u010fovac\u00ed linky plast\u016f pro p\u0159\u00edpravu feedstocku se p\u0159ipravuje v pr\u016fmyslov\u00e9 z\u00f3n\u011b Burianovka v Hav\u00ed\u0159ov\u011b. Are\u00e1l vznik\u00e1 v m\u00edst\u011b b\u00fdval\u00fdch kalov\u00fdch n\u00e1dr\u017e\u00ed dolu Franti\u0161ek, \u010d\u00edm\u017e doch\u00e1z\u00ed k revitalizaci d\u0159\u00edve znehodnocen\u00e9ho \u00fazem\u00ed – brownfieldu.<\/p>\n

        Projekt CITEM disponuje plochou 10,2 ha v\u010detn\u011b \u00fazemn\u00ed rezervy pro dal\u0161\u00ed roz\u0161\u00ed\u0159en\u00ed produk\u010dn\u00edch kapacit v budoucnu. V \u00fanoru 2025 bylo ukon\u010deno schv\u00e1len\u00edm zji\u0161\u0165ovac\u00ed \u0159\u00edzen\u00ed EIA a za\u010d\u00e1tkem \u00fanora 2026 z\u00edskal projekt CITEM ji\u017e \u00fazemn\u00ed rozhodnut\u00ed a stavebn\u00ed povolen\u00ed. V sou\u010dasnosti tak prob\u00edh\u00e1 p\u0159\u00edprava technick\u00e9 a stavebn\u00ed dokumentace, aby prvn\u00ed etapa stavby v\u00fdstavby mohla b\u00fdt zah\u00e1jena za\u010d\u00e1tkem roku 2027, po dokon\u010den\u00ed p\u00e1te\u0159n\u00ed infrastruktury pr\u016fmyslov\u00e9 z\u00f3ny Burianovka.
