This presentation analyzes how moisture influences chemical and biological processes in stored waste and presents Firefly’s early detection solution based on artificial intelligence. The Firefly system uses detection based on changes in the composition of vapors and gases generated during the early stages of thermal decomposition and fermentation processes, enabling identification of risky conditions even before a significant increase in surface temperature. Compared to systems relying solely on temperature monitoring, it can provide earlier warnings and allow intervention at an earlier stage of the process.<\/p>\n

The key advantage is minimal water usage: preventive measures suffice in early stages, while for minor spark ignitions, the system applies water mist at volumes orders of magnitude lower than standard sprinkler systems. This preserves RDF material dryness for further processing and eliminates re-ignition risk during storage. Early fermentation detection enables preventive intervention without the need for fire suppression or water usage, thereby preserving the quality of stored RDF material.<\/p>\n
