COVID-19 EXPERIENCE
The year 2020 will forever be remembered for the COVID-19 pandemic.
The pandemic COVID-19 exposed just how vulnerable a modern global society is and at the same time provided a stark warning that:
- in times of national crisis, response plans must not overlook the ongoing importance of managing waste; and
- that the waste and resource industry must have its own crisis management plans together with resilient infrastructure able to operate throughout a crisis.
We now see that each country chose a different approach to managing its waste during the pandemic. We would therefore like to use this opportunity to compare the effectiveness of different responses and strategies within the sector. This is a unique chance reflect, and also prepare the waste and resource industry for future crises management.
DEALING WITH THE COVID-19 EXPERIENCE
A New Challenge for the Waste & Resources Industry:
- Importance of the waste and resource sector in crisis management.
- Continuity of essential services and workforce management.
- Implementing crisis operations and returning to normal services.
- Impact of preemptive and quarantine measures on operations.
- Maintaining up to date crisis management plans.
- Financial considerations during a crisis situation.
- International responses to the pandemic and the effectiveness of adopted measures.
